THE MEANING

The kiku — chrysanthemum — is one of Japan's most enduring symbols. Associated with the Imperial family for over a thousand years, it represents longevity, rejuvenation and the quiet dignity of a life well-lived. To wear the kiku is to carry a wish — for yourself, or for someone you love.

OVERVIEW

A yuzen-style haori from the late Showa era, hand-sourced from Japan. The outside is a deep, composed black — understated until the light catches the hand-painted chrysanthemum pattern running across it. Open the jacket and everything changes: a burst of red, pink and yellow silk lining that makes the whole piece sing. This haori has never been worn. The original stitching remains intact — a detail that speaks to both its age and its condition. It is, in every sense, new old stock.

FIT

One size. Fits Australian sizes 6–16 depending on desired fit. Designed to be worn open and relaxed — the haori drapes rather than fits. The more you wear it the better it looks.
