Showa Era 1960s–1970s Hand-dyed Silk
THE MEANING
Shibori dot work creates soft, wave-like ripples - linked to water, flow and movement. A symbol of adaptability and the beauty of things that cannot be controlled.
THE CRAFT
Shibori is a Japanese resist-dyeing technique where fabric is bound, stitched or twisted before dyeing. Each dot is created by hand, making the pattern slightly irregular and entirely unique. No two shibori pieces are ever the same - the variation is the point.
