Era
Late Showa period
SymbolismThe Japanese tortoise shell pattern, known as Kikkō (亀甲), is a traditional geometric design consisting of interlocking hexagons representing a tortoise shell. It symbolises longevity, endurance, and good fortune and makes the ideal birthday or wedding gift.
Textile / techniqueBeautful, breathable silk with a silk lining. Note, the visible threads on the haori show that it has never been worn. These white threads should be removed before wear.
Styling
Wear open over denim and a simple tank for an elevated everyday look, or pair with tailored trousers and silk for something more refined. The soft structure allows it to drape beautifully, while the colour adds warmth and quiet impact. For a more defined silhouette, cinch with a belt to transform it into a wrap-style jacket. A piece that moves seamlessly between casual and considered — designed to be worn your own way. The jacket would fit size 6-16 UK/AUS.
Condition
As a vintage garment, minor imperfections may be present and are part of its history.
Care
Dry clean recommended. Store away from direct sunlight to preserve the silk.
